2008 End of Year Address: An Open Letter to the Internet

Dear The Internet,

When The Master Jeweler and I first started MuchMoreBetter.net back in September 2008, people thought we were crazy!

They said the Internet wasn't ready for our challenging mix of incisive editorial, cutting edge film and pseudo-historical, epic mini-series'! Maybe it never would be! It seemed the whole world was against us, bleating "It will never work", like a nightmarish herd of anthropomorphic, semi-domesticated farm creatures, trying to wear us down with their wooly malevolence!

But those people were too small Internet; they were just too small to dream! They lacked the soul for it, and they sure as hell lacked the balls! Their atrophied spirits had been slowly poisoned by the dictates of a society not willing to permit excellence, so that they fail to recognize it, even when it comes knocking upon their very doors. Yes, their very doors!

But you proved them wrong Internet! You showed them that not believing in excellence could never be right! No! Not as long as there is fire in our blood and the gumption in our loins to dream!

As we were cracking a lowly bottle of sparkling wine against the humble bough of the good ship MuchMoreBetter.net back in Sept '08, who could have guessed that this website would be visited more than 800 times in the 3 short months that followed? Within 2 weeks we were already ranked in the top 10 million websites of all time! And it didn't stop there... since then almost a dozen comments have been posted on our articles, 2 of which are verified as not coming from existing staff... or indeed anyone we even know at all!!

It hasn't all been plane sailing. We've had to learn some hard lessons along the way and no doubt, there will be many more to learn. But, Internet... but... what matters is that you proved the doubters wrong! All 800 hundred of you! In your actions, in the various navigational errors that have brought you here, in your habit of spending an average of 18 seconds per visit, in your bounce rate of less than 60%... you have shown that you are indeed ready for MuchMoreBetter.net!

We are honoured by the distinction you have given us, and we will continue to serve you with renewed strength, vigour and determination into 2009!

It was a long, tough fight to get MuchMoreBetter.net into the web's top ten million, but no one here is resting on their laurels.

New Targets
In a statement issued earlier this morning, the MMB team set a new goal firmly in their sites: closing the gap on arch rivals PalaceBowlingLanes.com (please do not click link as this will contribute to their traffic ranking).

PalaceBowlingLanes.com, a web page dedicated to informing the general public about functions and amenities at the Palace Bowling Lanes (4191 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX) currently hold the number 7,045,6391217 spot on the Alexa charts, approximately 3 million places above MuchMoreBetter.

MMB staffers have sworn to close the gap by 2015.

New Approach
"The strategy will be two-pronged" said Chief Executive Officer HCowling, "on the one hand, we will be doing everything possible to expand MMB's offering. On the other, our researchers will be attempting to establish what makes PalaceBowlingLanes.com so alluring."
